Learning Objective
Upon completing this lesson, you will be able to make the connection between Olo and your your Point of Sale (POS) system in the Company Menu, run price updates, troubleshoot common mismatches, and test your menu to ensure a successful integration. If your brand only receives orders through a non-integrated method (e.g. Expo, Email, SSOS, ), you can proceed to Part 3 of the training!
Core Learning
Essential POS Mapping Tools
The Company Menu provides several key tools to facilitate the menu mapping process and ensure your online menu correctly integrates with your POS system.
-
POS Menu Viewer: This tool allows you to browse the POS database by store location (POS dependent) to find specific menu items or modifiers and obtain their POS IDs.
-
Menu Mapping Inputs: Found in the Menu Admin, these fields allow you to select the entity type and input the POS IDs for products or modifiers.
-
Copy/Paste from POS Menu Viewer: This feature simplifies the mapping process by allowing you to directly copy and paste POS IDs from the POS Menu Viewer into the relevant fields in the Company Menu Admin.
Understanding your POS System
Understanding the unique requirements of your POS system is a critical step in menu mapping. Each POS system has its own operational nuances that must be considered to ensure accurate mapping.
- Mapping to a Single POS: If your brand is integrated with a single POS system, you must familiarize yourself with its specific requirements for menu mapping.
- Mapping Across Multiple POS Systems: If your brand uses multiple POS systems, contact Olo for guidance on mapping across them.
- Integrated vs. Non-Integrated Stores: If some of your stores are integrated with a POS and others are not (e.g., SSOS), you can map the menu for integrated stores without affecting the non-integrated locations.
Finalizing and Testing Your Menu
Once menu mapping is complete, it is best practice to test all products and run a basket test on a demo store before publishing to live locations.
- Log in to the Dashboard at http://my.olo.com.
- Navigate to the Menu tab on the left side of the screen, select Manage Menus.
- Click on Manage Stores and select the store(s) you want to update and click Next.
- Expand a category and use the + Add or x Remove buttons to manage products. Use the + Add Category or x Remove Category buttons to manage entire categories at once.

Updating Prices
For POS-integrated stores, Olo automatically updates prices twice daily (at 8:30am and 3:30pm EST). You can also run a manual update.
Manual Price Update:
- Login to the Olo Dashboard at https://my.olo.com
- Click on Settings and Store Settings
- Click on POS Settings and Select Store (Demo/Lab location recommended)
- Click Update Prices
- Click "Update online prices from POS"
- Once clicked, the update may take 1-2 minutes to complete. Please note: If you are manually running the price updater around 8:30 am EST or 3:30 pm EST you may notice a delay in completion as this is when our system-wide automatic update is happening. Any manually triggered price updates will be queued up behind the automatic updates.
For Brand Administrators: You can automatically run the price updater for all stores by accessing Settings > Brand Settings > General Settings > Price Sync Tool tab and clicking Price Sync Tool. The update typically takes 2-3 minutes.
