Toast POS: Dispatch Fee and Tip Setup

Technical Teams, Customer Success Specialists, Client's POS programmer      

Description of task:

Olo can send the Dispatch Fee (as quoted by the DSP) and/or the Dispatch Tip (as indicated by the guest) down to Toast POS. Both are sent down to POS via a "Service Charge". This article is to define those options to assist the DBA on the brand side with the setup in POS. This is for "Dispatch" and is not applicable to "Own Fleet Delivery", though they have some similarities. 

Solution:

Dispatch Fee via Service Charge

Use a Service Charge to send down the Dispatch Fee to Toast POS.

  • This Service Charge needs to be set up and flagged as follows:
    • Charge Type = Open Amount
    • Apply After Amount Threshold = $0
    • Assign to check owner (Gratuity)? = No
    • Taxed = Dependent on Tax laws per location
    • Delivery = No
  • Name it 'Dispatch Fee'

Dispatch Tip via Memo Item 

Use a Service Charge to send down the Dispatch Tip to Toast POS.

  • This Service Charge needs to be set up and flagged as follows:
    • Charge Type = Open Amount
    • Apply After Amount Threshold = $0
    • Assign to check owner (Gratuity)? = No
    • Taxed = Dependent on Tax laws per location
    • Delivery = No
  • Name it 'Dispatch Tip'

Steps to implement:

Copy the "GUID" from the Creation screen for each Service Charge, and send it to your Toast Technical POS Specialist to update for your brand.
