Overview
Dispatch Delivery Tip Distribution, is a feature designed to improve the fairness of tip allocation for your catering orders fulfilled through Dispatch. You can now configure percentage-based tip distribution between your restaurant staff and the delivery drivers.
Addressing the Challenge of Catering Tips
Catering orders often involve significantly larger tips than standard mealtime orders, reflecting the scale and effort involved. Previously, when these orders were delivered via a delivery service provider (DSP), the entire tip amount was transferred to the driver. This could lead to a situation where restaurant staff, who invested considerable time and effort in preparing the order, did not receive any direct benefit from the guest's generosity. Dispatch Delivery Tip Distribution directly addresses this challenge, fostering a greater sense of fairness and potentially boosting team morale. Additionally, it helps ensure that your guests' intentions to reward the entire team are better realized.
Introducing Configurable Tip Distribution
With this enhancement, you gain the flexibility to set specific percentage allocations for tips from catering orders delivered through Dispatch. These distribution settings can be customized at the restaurant location level and can even be configured differently for each DSP you work with. This granular control allows you to align your tip distribution practices with local regulations and any existing agreements you have with your delivery partners.
Benefits for Your Restaurant
- Improved Staff Morale: Recognize the hard work of your kitchen and front-of-house teams by ensuring they receive a fair share of catering tips.
- Operational Flexibility: Tailor tip distribution based on location-specific needs and DSP agreements.
- Alignment with Guest Intent: Better reflect the likelihood that guests intend their generous catering tips to benefit the entire team involved in the order.
Important to Understand
Delivery Service Provider Performance
It's important to be aware of potential risks associated with adjusting driver tip percentages. Lower driver tip amounts could potentially impact driver willingness to accept catering delivery requests, which may lead to increased cancellation rates or delays in on-time pickup and drop-off. We recommend carefully considering your tip distribution percentages to balance fairness for your staff and the drivers while maintaining efficient delivery service.
Driver Transparency
Olo is committed to ensuring accurate tip transmission. Our system will only ever transmit the driver's designated portion of the tip to the DSP and subsequently to the driver. However, it's crucial to be mindful of the information presented on your customer receipts and any labels attached to the delivery packaging. Ensure that these materials accurately reflect the driver's portion of the tip to avoid any potential confusion or dissatisfaction if a driver sees a larger total tip amount that differs from what they receive.
Who Can Utilize This Feature?
Delivery Tip Distribution is available to all Olo Dispatch customers who are also subscribed to Olo's Catering+ product. This includes any of the Catering+ package tiers; Base, Core, & Pro.
