How to configure Menu Tags
Step 1: Navigate to the Menu section of Dashboard
- Log in to the dashboard.
- Go to Menu and then Manage Menus.
- Select the company-level menu you want to edit. Tags must be added at the company level, not for individual store menus.
Step 2a: Add Tags to a Menu Item
- Find the menu item you wish to tag.
- Look for the tag icon next to the item and click on it.
- A list of available tags will appear, each with a name and a description. Tag names and descriptions are not customizable.
- Select from different categories of tags with the dropdown box at the top.
- Select all the tags that apply to the menu item and click Save.
You may select tags from multiple categories. All tags selected will be applied to the menu item.
Step 2b: Add Tags to a Modifier Choice
If using Serve as your interface, we highly suggest that you limit the number of tags on modifiers to the fewest necessary tags so that modifiers do not appear crowded
- Find the modifier you wish to tag.
- Click on the Edit button.
- Find the modifier choice that you wish to tag.
- Look for the tag icon next to that choice and click on it.
- A list of available tags will appear, each with a name and a description. Tag names and descriptions are not customizable.
- Select all the tags that apply to the menu item and click Save.
View the Tags on Your Menu
- Refresh your menu page to see the changes.
- The tags will appear as a small icon or letter next to the item name on the main menu page.
- Hovering over the tag on a desktop will show the full name of the preference (e.g. "Vegetarian").
- Clicking on the item to go to its product page will show the full tag name spelled out.
- A legend explaining the tags and their descriptions will be at the bottom of the menu page.
Important Notes
- Caching Time: Changes may take one to five minutes to appear on the live menu due to caching.
- Disclaimer: A note will automatically be added to your menu stating that these tags are for dietary preferences, not guaranteed allergen information and that there is a chance of cross-contamination. This helps manage customer expectations.
- Search Functionality: The tags are searchable. When a customer searches for a tag like "spicy," any item with that tag will appear in the search results, even if the word "spicy" is not in the item's description.
