Is Base Product Feature

The "Is Base Product" feature enables brands to control how prices are displayed within the modifier group. This functionality is useful for preventing misinterpretation of pricing, ensuring a clean and accurate user experience.

By default, when a modifier choice is added to the menu with a price, a plus sign (+) precedes the price to indicate an additional charge. However, in scenarios where the modifier selection dictates the item's base price—rather than adding to it—the presence of the plus sign can be misleading.

For instance, consider a Caesar Salad menu item where the size option (Small, Medium, or Large) is tied directly to the price. Without the "Is Base Product" feature enabled, the prices would be displayed as follows:

• Small + $6.99
• Medium + $8.99
• Large + $10.99
• Extra Large + 12.99

By checking the “Is Base Product” box, the prices will appear without the (+), presenting the price clearly as the base cost for that specific modifier selection

• Small $6.99
• Medium $8.99
• Large $10.99
• Extra Large $12.99

This configuration improves clarity for the customer by accurately reflecting that they are choosing a specific size and its associated price, rather than adding an extra charge to an existing item.

Steps to Adding the “Is Base Product” Checkbox

1. Login to the Dashboard at https://my.olo.com

2. Click on the “Menus” tab on the left side of the screen.

3. Click on “Manage Company Menu”.

4. Click to expand the category.

5. Click on “Modifiers” next to the product.

6. Click “Edit”.

7. Find the modifier choice that you want to apply the “Is Base Product” checkbox too.

8. Select the pencil icon. 

9. Check the box next to “Is Base Product”.

10. Click “Save”.

11. Repeat for all relevant modifiers.
