Previously, when top level products didn't have a true POS mapping, stores weren't able to automatically remove those products from the menu when 86ing the modifiers underneath them.
We have a feature called dependent availability, where the availability of the main menu item is dictated by the availability of modifiers that are nested under the main item. For example, there is a “Wild-Caught Flounder” item on the menu that is mapped to "none", and the modifiers under this item are mapped as items. In this instance, any time both the "Golden-Fried" and "Oven-Broiled" options are 86'd, the “Wild-Caught Flounder” item should also 86 since the required choices that a customer would need to make are no longer available. If a customer attempts to order the “Wild-Caught Flounder” item without a selection of "Golden-Fried" or "Oven-Broiled", the order will fail.

NOTE: You can also use the dependent availability feature in instances when the product level is actually mapped to a POS ID. This feature is not restricted only to instances when the item level is mapped to "none".
If you would like to use the dependent availability feature, there are two steps that need to be completed.
Step 1: Configure Base Products in Company Menu Admin
In Company Menu Admin, the brand should select the “Is Base Product (Removes “ + “ in front of price)” checkbox for each relevant modifier. Based on our example, the brand should select this option for both the "Golden-Fried" and "Oven-Broiled" options:
What that does is, it grays out the top level 86 option on the vendor menu (meaning, the 86 option for the “Wild-Caught Flounder” item will gray out and not be clickable) , forcing the store to 86 the choice modifiers:
Once all choices in the group are 86ed, the top level item (the “Wild-Caught Flounder” item) will automatically be removed from the website altogether.
Un-86ing at least one modifier in the group will resurface the item on the menu. If there are multiple modifier groups under the product containing these "Is Base Product" modifiers, the main item will 86 any time all of the choices in a single modifier group get 86'd. This feature is applicable regardless of the level of nesting of an "Is Base Product" modifier.
This functionality goes into effect, regardless of how the modifiers get 86'd: manually within Store Menu Admin, during the twice daily price update, etc.
