Through the Dashboard, you can temporarily remove (86) a product or choice from your online menu. When this is done, the product/choice is hidden when 86’d as to prevent customers from ordering it while it is unavailable. Customer favorites are left unimpacted. For example, you would use this option when you are out of stock of tomatoes at the store and you won’t be able to offer menu items with them until you restock. Please refer to When to use 86ing vs Availability Settings vs Removing Items at the bottom of this article for a comprehensive guide on when to use the 86ing function.
When you 86 a product, you are removing it temporarily. It is very important to remember that after you 86 a product or modifier, you will need to un-86 it for it to appear on the menu unless you use the 86 Availability Restoration feature.
Note for POS integrated stores: If you are not integrated to Micros, Silver/Silver Pro, or Treatware, items and modifiers need to be 86'd within the Olo store menu. For certain POS systems, the Olo menu will respect item availability that has been indicated within the POS. The articles on Micros, Silver/Silver Pro, & Treatware go over how 86'ing works with each of those POS systems.
- Log in to the Dashboard at https://my.olo.com
- Click on the Menus tab on the left side of the screen
- Click Manage Store Menu
- Select the store(s) for whose menu you’d like to update (These are all the store(s) you have access to).
- Click a category to expand the list of products (e.g. Appetizers)
- Click on 86 Availability for the product you want to remove
- A pop-up window titled (86) Availability Actions will appear asking you to re-confirm the selection.
- Select one of the above options, and click Save.
- Once you click save, the product will disappear from your online menu. On the store menu within Olo menu admin, a note will appear next to the 86'd items, indicating that they have been set as unavailable (86'd).
*If you did not schedule an Un86 date, to show the product in the menu once again, you need to “Un-86” it. To do this click on the “86 Availability” button once again.

To offer you and your customers the best user experience, we recommend following these guidelines to decide which method you will use to update your menu: 86ing, Availability settings or choosing to remove items.

86ing should only be used in scenarios where the items or modifiers will be un86d in the near future. If an item will no longer be offered at the store location, that item should be removed from that store’s menu. Please note that removing items will break customer favorites. Even if an item is 86’d and visible on the store menu, customers will not be able to place future orders on items and modifiers.
Availability Settings offer you the ability to dictate a timeframe when a product or modifier can be available or unavailable. Therefore, this feature should be used to create Limited Time Offers on your menu, and whenever there is a planned date for an item to be either available or unavailable. When using availability settings, you have the option to allow customers to place future orders on items and modifiers.
Please note: We do not recommend performing large 86ing requests to structure the menu, where Availability Settings could be used.
